PROJECT PORTFOLIO

The following are examples of architectural / building design projects undertaken by the Principle Structural Engineer and Architectural Designer outlining the range of experience held by the Companies founders:-

EXTENSIONS AND ALTERATIONS TO DOMESTIC DWELLINGHOUSES

The Architectural staff has experience in the designs of extensions and alterations to domestic dwelling houses ranging from internal remodelling, simple single storey extensions to complex loft conversions and multi storey extensions as well as new build dwellinghouses and apartments. Go to the gallery at the foot of this page for images of past projects.

SIKH TEMPLE, ATTERCLIFFE, SHEFFIELD

In 2007 a new Sikh Temple and Community Building was commissioned on a site in Attercliffe on the outskirts of Sheffield City Centre.  The design was a traditional one, incorporating large open plan rooms at ground floor level for community functions and at first floor level for worship.

The site was contaminated following past usage and is in close proximity to the River Don.  Accordingly, the design has incorporated measures to restrict the potential for flow of contaminants into the river.  The ground conditions also necessitate the use of ground improvement techniques, in this case a process known as Vibro-Flotation, which were undertaken by specialist contractors Roger Bullivant Limited.

The building superstructure is of masonry diaphragm construction, thus utilising a minimum of structural steel members.  The building design also incorporates a number of environmentally-sensitive measures including grey water re-cycling, bio-filtration of surface water run-off, and heating powered by ground-source heat pumps.

PROPOSED NEW DWELLING, BROOM, ROTHERHAM

This is a very recent commission from a private Client to design a new 6-bedroom family home on the site of an existing bungalow on the outskirts of Rotherham.

The Client’s brief included not only an indoor swimming pool, but a general scope to include as many environmentally-friendly details as possible.  Thus, on this site, we have incorporated underfloor and swimming pool heating powered by a Ground-Source Heat Pump system; grey-water recovery for flushing toilets and watering gardens; a living “Green” roof over the swimming pool enclosure; photo-voltaic cell electricity generators and solar hot-water panels to the roof.  Other systems currently being evaluated by the Client for inclusion include a bespoke whole-house ventilation system.

This is the existing bunglalow which is to be demolished: -

PROPOSED BUSINESS STARTER UNITS, BRIGHTSIDE, SHEFFIELD

This Client’s instructions were to design a self-contained building for mixed commercial/industrial use on an infill site near to Sheffield City Centre.

The site is enclosed on three sides by other existing developments and the site vehicular entry is fixed toward the rear right-hand corner of the site.

A design for a two-storey building, incorporating seven ground-floor industrial starter units with sixteen modular office starter units to the upper storey, accessed via a open-plan staircase to the front left hand corner of the building and thence to a central communal corridor was developed. Landscaping was included to the front of the site in accordance with the Local Authority Planning Officer’s requirements.

However due to the current financial climate the client opted to simplify the Building to incorporate six ground-floor industrial starter units.

PROPOSED INDUSTRIAL BUILDING EXTENSION, DRONFIELD

This Client has an existing industrial building, but with ample room to expand the warehousing provisions on the site.  In order to minimise disruption to the ongoing business activity, it was necessary to deliver a design the restricted the need to open-up parts of the existing precast concrete framed building.

This was achieved as may be seen from the images below, by designing a steel framed structure that includes a fabricated deep horizontal beam to span-over the left-hand side of the existing building.

This development is currently under construction.
